Baby, It's Cold Outside

Today we woke up to the lovely sound of the phones ringing at 5:30. Normally that would have driven me crazy, but this morning it was the sound of pure bliss. This phone call was special. There was no school plus no seminary and most importantly, no 6:30 a.m. arrival to work at the high school. All because rain turned into frosty, lovely, icy, lacy, snowflakes. A snow day. For those not of the desert, a snow day is the nirvana wish of every school age kid in a 300 mile radius.

The kids made a snowman, changed clothes a billion times and the hot water heater ran out of water a couple of times. The fireplace sang sweetly with the crackling of fire and my pillow cushioned my head until about eleven. Jim came home early and spent the afternoon with us. It was heaven.

And yet the good news did not end. Five-thirty, the phone rang again. Guess what? No school, no seminary and no work tomorrow because those lovely icy things are still raining from the sky. I love snow.

A kiss for daddy who came home early.

Yeah, it's that cold.

Happy Snow Day Grins

Sideways Snow

I was supposed to give finals today. I bet my students are just as happy as me.

Matt in four layers of clothes. He still had his pajamas on underneath all that.

Jameson's idea of what a snowball should look like when in the midst of battle.

Elise made snow angels.

Happy Ashlynn, twirling in the snow.

Seems funny that school is canceled because it snows. What a hoot. But it looks like fun - Terri doesn't appreciate a good snowball to the back of the head any more.

By the way, here in Moroni it was warmer last night than the night before. Four degrees versus three.

I loved the pictures, and the story. What a beautiful two fabulous days of snow. Elise, what is the secret to getting up from a snow angel without stepping in it? I am out of practice.

In Rexburg there would be 12 days in the school year if they had snow days. They do have "cold days," where it has to be -20, I believe, then they cancel school.
