Lightin' bugs
The sound of "what's up y'all"
Watermelon cold from sitting in the creek all morning
Pine needles crunching beneath your feet
The sweet smell of blossoms in the air
Sticky, hot weather (see below)
Mosquitoes the size of quarters (o.k. I don't really miss those beasts, but for some reason they remain in my memory for a long time!)
Azaleas
Lilacs
Dad cutting the grass Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, etc. =)
Mom's hot fudge icing on Texas sheet cake
Banana Pudding
The sound of a "friendly" basketball game among the boys.
Skipping rocks on the creek
The cousins hatching a plot to get Grandpa Louis to give them a ride on the tractor
Sitting on the porch swing with a glass of lemonade
Red...who is chasing birds in heaven or who may just still be sittin' on the back porch. Who knows.
Most of all..I miss my family. Six brothers, a sister, parents, my beautiful sister-in-laws and DAVE (of course) and a variety of ragamuffin, squirrelly, sweet nieces and nephews.
We miss all of you and wish that we could have come to visit. Here are a few of the pictures from some of our previous summers there to tide us over. God be with us until we meet again. And under no circumstance is anyone to remind me for the next week that I live on the other side of the world. Thank you.
Love,
Carrie
