Descanso Gardens
If you're from Georgia and stuck in the Desert of Southern California, where do you go for some relief? Descanso Gardens. It's about 1.5 hours away. It's just north of Los Angeles in La CaƱada Flintridge. There are 160 acres of wonderful growing things. The only problem is, there is no PA system to announce that the park is closing at 4:30 p.m. so when you discover at 5:30 that you have been locked in the rose garden, it can be a little embarrassing. Nevertheless, we had a great time. Here are some pictures:

There was a wedding going on that day--actually two of them. So we took a few snaps. The one photography crew we saw consisted of five or six guys following a bride and groom around. The guy doing the video kept standing in Carrie's shot as she was trying to photograph flowers. Don't you just hate professional photographers? What a bunch of dorks.
We don't really do any macro work. But we had fun taking shots like this. Pretty flowers. I think I smell a new lens coming on pretty soon.

This guy was about the size of a quarter. I didn't feel like putting my hand up there for scale though.

This thing posed. Truly. It sat there turning its head looking at the camera for about three minutes. Did I already mention that a new lens may be forthcoming?
Carrie loved this statue. She can have one of these for the backyard and I'll take the train.

When the three older kids were young, we lived in Glendale which is quite close to Descanso Gardens, and we took them there several times. It is still one of my favorite So Cal locations. Love the photos!
I remember going to Descanso as a kid. And the Arboretum. We drove past Travel Town too. I wanted to stop. Carrie thought I was crazy. Good memories.
This reminded me of the Huntington Library and gardens. If you've never been, it's a treat!
That's the first time in my life I've used the phrase, "It's a treat."
And the last.
